“LONDON HEALTH SCIENCES LEARNING BY EXAMPLE” ELLIOTT
(Queen’s Park) – PC Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, MPP Christine Elliott (Whitby-Oshawa) slammed the McGuinty government once again for their scandalous spending practices.
“A pattern is developing,” Elliott charged this morning in the Legislature. “Executives in the McGuinty government are following the example the Premier and Minister of Health set when they hired Sarah Kramer, who let $16 million in untendered contracts.”
London Health Sciences Centre is the most recent victim in a string of scandalous spending via untendered contracts.
A report leaked last week identified a total of $3.3 million in untendered contracts allocated to the Atwood Group by London Health Sciences Centre VP Diane Beattie. The Atwood group is owned by Tom Vlasic, a former colleague of Ms Beattie.
“First, we have executives at eHealth Ontario writing blank cheques to their friends at Liberal friendly consulting firms, and now we are seeing that behaviour imitated on a local level,” said Elliott.
“This reckless spending of taxpayers’ money is absolutely unacceptable,” said Elliott, “At a time when hospitals across the province are finding it next to impossible to balance their budgets we cannot afford to be doling out millions of dollars in hospital contracts without competitive bidding.”
