Christine Elliott:
DALTON MCGUINTY’S THRONE SPEECH DELIVERS MORE EMPTY PROMISES

PC MPP says today’s Throne Speech does little to help Ontario’s
struggling economy

(Queen’s Park) – Progressive Conservative MPP Christine Elliott, Whitby-Oshawa today said that Dalton McGuinty’s Throne Speech delivered more empty promises and little action to improve Ontario’s economy.

“The promises in today’s Throne Speech ring hollow after four years of job losses and the continuing decline of our manufacturing sector,” said MPP Christine Elliott. “Today’s Throne Speech does very little to deal with these issues or create jobs for the people of Whitby-Oshawa.”

Christine Elliott pointed to the negative impact that Dalton McGuinty’s policy of high taxes and runaway spending has had on Ontario. Since January 2005, Ontario has lost 153,500 well-paying manufacturing jobs.

“Dalton McGuinty needs to get serious about Ontario’s economy,” added MPP Elliott. “Hollow words and more promises won’t find better paying jobs for the people in Whitby-Oshawa but a stronger economy will.”

MPP Elliott called on the government to take real steps to address these issues and cited the alarming indicators which show that Ontario’s economic growth has fallen behind all other provinces and is now expected to rank last this year according to both RBC and CIBC.

“After four years of playing the blame game, it’s time that Dalton McGuinty started listening to hard-working Ontarians by reducing taxes, cutting red tape and finally addressing Ontario’s economic woes,” said MPP Christine Elliott.
