Christine Elliott entered politics when she won the March 2006 by-election.

Christine completed her Law Degree at the University of Western Ontario and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1980.  Ms. Elliott is a founding member and partner of Flaherty Dow Elliott & McCarthy, where she practices real estate, corporate and estate law.

In 2005, Ms. Elliott received the “Peter Perry Award”, Whitby’s outstanding citizen of the year award, in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the community.  Ms. Elliott, a champion for persons with special needs, is the co-founder and a Director of the Abilities Centre, a multipurpose athletic, recreation and performing arts facility for persons with special needs to be built in Whitby.  She is currently a Director and Past Chair of Grandview Children’s Centre and a Director of the Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation.  As a result of her service with Durham Mental Health services, a community mental health agency, they named one of their new houses in Ajax “Elliott House”.  Ms. Elliott has also won a “Durham Woman of success Award” for her outstanding contributions to the community.

Ms. Elliott is a “Paul Harris Fellow”, having received Rotary International’s highest ward in recognition of her pro bono legal work in establishing a charitable foundation for one of the Whitby Rotary Clubs.

Ms. Elliott is a Director of Legacy Private Trust, a Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Chair of the Symphony’s Planned Giving Program.  Ms. Elliott has also served as a Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Ms. Elliott was born in Oshawa and raised in Whitby, where she currently resides with her husband the Honourable Jim Flaherty, their triplets sons, John, Galen and Quinn.
